From its outset, the Church of the Nazarene has been a missional people, that is, a people “responding to the call of Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit to go into all the world, witnessing to the Lordship of Christ and participating with God in the building of the Church and the extension of His kingdom” (Nazarene Core Values).
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations . . .” (Matthew 28:19) is our mandate to share the good news with more than just our family member, neighbor or co-worker. Our calling is to every person on earth.
Nazarene Missions International (NMI) exists to assist local churches in fulfilling their part in this task. Through prayer support, financial giving, global awareness and involvement of all ages, individuals and local churches can contribute to reaching people for Christ around the world.
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20)
With these words, we have clear direction to go to all peoples and all nations. Nazarene Missions International, or NMI, is the arm of the church that provides the opportunity for everyone to be involved in fulfilling the Great Commission in all nations. No one can go to every country to bring the good news to all peoples and many cannot leave their country at all. However, NMI gives everyone – men, women, youth, and children – the opportunity to participate even if they cannot physically go there.
Responding to God’s command is a personal decision and the actions of individuals are important. But when a lot of individuals work together, a whole lot more can be accomplished to impact the world for Christ. NMI organizes and offers many opportunities to be involved in spreading the gospel as individuals and churches work together.
