Background: Tell us a little about your family background, and how you came to faith in Christ
I was born into a Catholic family nestled in the hill country of Sri Lanka, surrounded by lush tea estates. But as a child, I never felt drawn to the church. Perhaps it was because I didn’t understand, or maybe it was the constant worry about our family’s financial struggles that filled my mind. We faced many hardships, and inner peace felt like a distant dream. Yet, I believe the creator of this universe had a plan for me.
Years later, the economic crisis of 2009 forced my wife and me to move from the capital city to our current home. It was there that we met our pastor. He spoke to me about faith in Christ, and his words resonated deep within me. For the first time, I felt a sense of peace that had eluded me for so long. That peace deepened the following year when our newborn son’s life was miraculously saved. I remember the fear, the worried prayers, and then the overwhelming relief. It was then I knew my faith had to grow even stronger.
How SANBC De-Centeralised program was flexible to you to manage your work, home and study
It was like a dream come true! The SANBC decentralized program brought the college to my doorstep, freeing me to learn without sacrificing precious time with my family. Being present for my son’s milestones while pursuing my education. That was a spiritual awakening in itself! This method also helps me apply concepts and principles I learned in the classroom to real-world ministry contexts. Divine assistance enabled me to complete the requisite 25 courses within a span of four years.
Tell us what you’ve been doing since graduation? Where have you seen God at work in what you’ve been doing, and in where you are working?
I am serving as learning center coordinator for Sri Lanka and part of Leadership team of the district and I truly experienced His love, protection, and providence even during the challenging period in our nation amid the economic crisis.
My life is valuable because I was created by God, who chose me. Even with my mistakes, God offers me a chance to be close to Him through Jesus Christ’s sacrifice. He guides me, shows me the truth, and fills my life with peace through His Holy Spirit. In different roles I have, I can share God’s love and goodness with others, which brings me great joy.
Even though we encounter numerous obstacles as person, a church, ministers, and district, I believe He has placed me here in this time and place to be a member of a team that constructs barriers which safeguard His church from adversaries and to foster revival within the church.
After a change in management, as a member of the new team, I was required to visit our current centers and meet with the appropriate authorities to obtain permission for the continuation of those programs. As a new team, it posed significant challenges for us, but God miraculously and in unforeseen ways displayed His mercy to obtain all permissions with minimal difficulties.
God is good – All the time!
And what’s next?
He has directed me thus far in this journey, and He is trustworthy. I have faith that He will lead and guide me in the days ahead according to His will and purpose. I have my personal and family plans; however, I will do my utmost to align with His agenda.
He who knows yesterday, even before I was formed in my mother’s womb, certainly knows my tomorrow—better than I do.
