As Vacation Bible School (VBS) season begins across our region, churches in India have already kicked off the season with joyful energy, storytelling, and hearts eager to grow in God’s Word. From the hills of Buldhana to the streets of Washim, local Nazarene churches have opened their doors to children from all backgrounds, offering them a space of fun and transformation.
In the first week of May, Nazarene Chapel Church in Dhamandari, Buldhana, hosted a VBS for 35 children, 25 of them from the local community. Through Bible stories, action songs, and group activities, children learned about bible characters like Daniel, Adam and Eve, and the prodigal son. Many were left deeply moved.
“Please arrange the VBS again!” was the request from several participants. The spiritual impact was especially evident among the community children, who expressed a sincere interest in the stories and teachings of Christ.
Meanwhile, Grace Church of the Nazarene in Hebbal celebrated a week-long VBS under the theme “The Growing Leaders. ”With 35 children, six teachers, and eight volunteers, the church was transformed into a space of creativity, laughter, and learning. Children enjoyed crafts, games, and skits, and the week was concluded with a grand finale where they showcased memory verses and received certificates and prizes. Organisers called the week a “faith-filled experience for the next generation of leaders.”
Pease Memorial Church in CIDCO held a three-day VBS experience from May 22–24, with growing numbers each day, reaching up to 63 children. The event focused on helping children dedicate their lives to God through age-based lessons, songs, and interactive games. On Sunday, May 25, families gathered to celebrate “VBS Sunday,” with children sharing songs and testimonies. One highlight was the encouragement awards for children who invited their friends, which is a gentle reminder of how VBS inspires young evangelists.
Earlier in the month, the Western Maharashtra District also held a one-day VBS Teachers’ Training at Ambivali Church, Thane. It was a meaningful day of learning and fellowship, with each teacher receiving a set of 100 VBS books to prepare for the season ahead. The training emphasized the importance of sharing God’s Word with passion and creativity, equipping volunteers for a fruitful ministry.
In Washim, Eastern Maharashtra District, nearly 70 children gathered at Washim Church under the theme “Honourable Vessel.” The week was filled with songs, stories, and unforgettable moments of transformation. Eighteen-year-old Anjali Masih shared how one lesson deeply resonated with her: “I’ve faced pain, rejection, and emotional wounds since childhood. But VBS helped me understand that God uses broken people for His glory. I’ve chosen to forgive and now live in God’s presence with hope.” Another child, Sana, just eleven years old, shared: “Jesus changed Paul’s life completely, and I believe He can change mine too. I just need to come to Him with a true heart.”
As these stories unfold, we give thanks for the seeds being planted in children’s lives across India. Vacation Bible School is not just a summer program; it is a space where joy meets the gospel, where little ones hear that they are loved, and where communities catch a glimpse of God’s Kingdom through the laughter and learning of their youngest members.
Let us keep our churches in India in prayer this season.
