“Two years ago, I could never have dreamed of the official organization of the Nazarene Church in Luxembourg,” said Northern Europe Field Strategy Coordinator Antonie Holleman to the congregation gathered to celebrate the church’s inaugural milestone on Sunday 28th September.

In 2017, Antonio Cardoso felt called to gather Nazarenes in Luxembourg. The gatherings began with Sunday services in the home of Antonio Cardoso and his wife, Cristina, later moving to a small chapel generously offered by a local priest.

The congregation was small and vulnerable, but God was quietly at work in each person, teaching what it truly means to be members of the Body of Christ.

The church had a powerful spirit of koinonia, which helped the church to continue when it lost its place of worship. The brothers and sisters were intentional about being together, worshiping God not only in services and songs but also in fellowship—through picnics in the park, kayaking, and climbing.

The following years proved miraculous. By God’s blessing, Antonie Holleman joined, devoting himself to find a new place to worship, and to help the community become an organized church. In one spirit, people of many nationalities living in Luxembourg, together with fellow Nazarenes from the Netherlands, gathered to celebrate the official organization of the Church of the Nazarene in Luxembourg.

The church in Luxembourg is part of the Benelux district and started with 37 members, 18 of which have been members of a Nazarene church in Cape Verde or Portugal.
