INDIA FIELD – Sunday school is an integral part of the Church of the Nazarene, focusing on nurturing children in faith and Christlikeness. As Proverbs 22:6 says, caregivers are to “train up a child in the way he should go: even when he is old he will not depart from it.” Sunday school teachers play a vital role in this discipleship process, which led Nazarene Discipleship International (NDI) to create Nexus Kids—a Sunday School teacher training program.

Eurasia Region NDI Coordinator Reverend Diego Lopez announced the launch of Nexus Kids to the India Field NDI team, which embraced the opportunity to train Sunday School teachers at the local church level. Nexus Kids launched in March in Chandigarh, in Northern India, where 70 Sunday School teachers participated.

The curriculum focuses on training teachers on topics like understanding children and children’s ministry, the tenants of the Christian faith, and understanding the self as a Sunday School teacher.

District leaders plan to conduct Nexus Kids trainings across India, with a goal of training least 500 Sunday School teachers throughout the field equipping local churches to nurture children in their faith. So far, 170 Sunday school teachers have completed the program in different locations. Teachers shared that they now have a new burden and vision for children’s ministry in their local churches.

The NDI vision seeks to make Sunday School strong in every local church, nurturing every child so that they will always walk in the way of Christ and never depart from it.
